Professor Wen received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National Taiwan University in 1986 and Master of Science and PhD from the Department of Aeronautics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), U.S.A. in 1989 and 1994 respectively. He worked at Caltech as a Research Fellow from February 1994 to July 1994 and then continued his teaching and research works at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Da-Yeh University, Taiwan. He was promoted to full professorship in February 2002. He had been the Chairman of the Department of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering from August 1997 to July 2000, and the Provost from August 2004 to July 2006 in the Da-Yeh University, Taiwan. In August 2006, Professor Wen joined the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics of the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan, before joining the Department of Mechanical Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2012 as professor. He served as the associate head/research of ME department from May 2015 to October 2019. He is currently the Chair Professor of Aeronautical Engineering in the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering, the Director of COMAC-PolyU Research Institute for Large Aircraft, Associate Director of Research Institute for Sports Science and Technology and the Director of Research Centre of Unmanned Autonomous Systems. Professor Wen has authored and co-authored more than 300 scientific papers, conference papers and book chapters. He was also awarded 14 patents. Professor Wen, currently a Fellow of ASME, RAeS, HKIE and an AIAA Associate Fellow, actively engages in professional academic activities related to mechanical and aerospace engineering at both domestic and international levels. In addition, he serves as a member of, various key professional boards and bodies related to the Aerospace Engineering.

Dr. Bing Wang is an Assistant Professor in Robotics and Autonomous Systems in the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Before joining PolyU, he was recognized as a “TopMinds (天才少年)” researcher at Huawei, where he led a team in the Optical Product Line developing advanced solutions for autonomous driving and AR-HUD. Dr. Wang received his DPhil in Computer Science from the University of Oxford under the supervision of Prof. Niki Trigoni and Prof. Andrew Markham. Prior to Oxford, he was supervised by Prof. Qingquan Li in Spatial Information. His research focuses on Spatial Intelligence, advancing human-level spatial perception and world understanding on mobile robotic platforms such as drones, ground robots, and underwater vehicles. His work targets robust and efficient spatial-perception solutions that improve the reliability, intelligence, and safety of intelligent machines in real-world settings. Core directions include multimodal learning, 3D reconstruction, scene understanding, and context reasoning.

Dr Wang received his BEng degree in Flight Vehicle Design and Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology, China in 2017 and PhD degree in Mechanical and Automation Engineering (MAE) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2021. Before joining the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering at PolyU, he was respectively a Research Assistant and a Postdoctoral Fellow at Department of MAE of CUHK from August 2021 to March 2022 and from April 2022 to October 2022. His research interests include various advanced control methodologies of aircraft and spacecraft systems as well as mobile robots, including cooperative control, adaptive control, sliding mode control, model predictive control, and event-triggered control. He has been invited three times to contribute papers on the topic of event-triggered control at invited sessions of IEEE Conference on Decision and Control and IFAC World Congress. Dr Wang is a Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Chinese Association of Automation (CAA)

Kang Liu received the Ph.D. in Control Science and Engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, China, in 2022. He is currently a Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong. From May 2024 to December 2025, he is also a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong. Prior to that, he was a Research Associate at the School of Computer Science, The University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. His current research focuses on integrating AI technology, intelligent control, unmanned aircraft, and autonomous robotics, with applications spanning intelligent agriculture, building inspection, aeronautics and astronautics, and other fields. He actively serves as a reviewer for several leading international journals and conferences. He is a member of IEEE, IES, and CAA, and serves on multiple IEEE/RAS Technical Committees.

Dr. Boyang Li is a Lecturer in Aerospace Systems Engineering at the School of Engineering, University of Newcastle. Between 2020 and 2023, he was a Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering(AAE), Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), where he founded the Autonomous Aerial Systems Laboratory (AASL). Before that, he had been a postdoctoral researcher at the Air Traffic Management Research Institute (ATMRI), Nanyang Technology University (NTU), Singapore and the Soft Systems Group, University of Edinburgh, UK during 2019 and 2020. He received a PhD degree at the AIRO-Lab of PolyU, Hong Kong and the B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees in Aeronautical Engineering from Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), China. His scholarly pursuits are characterised by a commitment to innovation and advancement in uncrewed aerial vehicle/uncrewed aircraft systems (UAV/UAS) technology. Dr. Yu LI received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Control Science and Engineering from Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi’an, China, in 2016, 2019, and 2023, respectively. He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the City University of Hong Kong before joining HKPolyU. His current research interests include control theory applications, fault diagnosis, and fault-tolerant control, as well as guidance, navigation, and control of UAVs.

Mr. Ho Wang Tong received his BEng degree from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2021, where he is currently working toward the Ph.D degree with the Research Center for Unmanned Autonomous Systems (RCUAS), Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering. His research interests include optimization of integer linear programming problems using various metaheuristic algorithms and mission-oriented path planning for UAV systems, including various inspection applications.

Mr. Wenyu Yang received his BEng degree from the Ocean University of China in 2019 and MEng degree from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2021. Before joining the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering at PolyU, he was a Research Assistant at the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering at PolyU. His research interests include various advanced perception methodologies of UAV systems as well as mobile robots, including SLAM, deep learning, and semantic mapping. Mr. Zhengyan Zhang is a PhD candidate in the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, supervised by Prof. Chih-yung Wen(ASME/RAES/HKIE Fellow). He received his M.Eng degree in Control Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen, supervised by Prof. Max Q.-H. Meng (IEEE/CAE/HKIE Fellow). Before that, he received his B.Eng. degree in Measurement and Control Technology and Instrument from Nanjing Tech University, supervised by Prof. Lihang Feng. His research mainly concentrates on 3D vision and robot navigation (e.g., surgical and underwater scenarios). He solves problems by integrating optimization algorithms with deep learning. He currently works on topics about 3D generative models, sonar reconstruction, and point cloud registration.

Patrick Li-Yu Lo received his BEng and MPhil degrees in Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2021 and 2024, respectively, where he was mentored by Prof. Chih-Yung Wen and Dr. Boyang Li. Yang Hu received her Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronic Engineering and Bachelor of Science from The University of Sydney in 2022. Athena received her B.Eng. degree in Mechanical Engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2022 and her MPhil degree in Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering from the same university in 2025, focusing on soft robotics and unmanned aerial systems. She is currently a Junior Research Assistant at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). In Spring 2026, she will join Arizona State University as a Ph.D. student, where her research will focus on robotic manipulation in surgical robotics.

PhD Thesis: Advancing UAV-based inspection system : a novel AI-powered technique for crack detection, localization and quantification
Dr. Kwai-wa Tse received the B.Eng. degree in Information Engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2013, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2018 and 2024, respectively. In 2024, he joined the Centre for Robotic Autonomy in Demanding and Long-Lasting Environments (CRADLE) at the University of Manchester as a Robotics Technical Specialist. His research interests include autonomous systems, teleoperation, and the integration of machine learning and artificial intelligence in robotics.
Dr. Kwai-wa Tse received the B.Eng. degree in Information Engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2013, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2018 and 2024, respectively. Li Fanyi (Vito) holds an M.Sc. in Aviation Engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2024) and a B.Sc. in Materials Physics from the Civil Aviation University of China (2016). As a licensed CAAC Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (ME-TA), he has years of extensive experience in the aviation maintenance industry. He currently serves in the Maintenance and Engineering department at Hong Kong Airlines, where he manages fleet-wide heavy-maintenance planning for Airbus A320 aircraft. His academic research focused on UAV design and control, complementing his strong practical background in aviation engineering.

Dr. Han Chen graduated from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a PhD in AAE in 2023. Prior to that, he obtained bachelor's and master's degree in 2016 and 2019 from Beijing Institute of Technology. He is currently an Associate Professor at Northwestern Polytechnical University. Previously, he worked at Huawei as an Algorithm Researcher and Senior Engineer in the Riemann Lab, where he was responsible for the development of crowdsourced data mapping algorithms. Over the past five years, he has published numerous high-quality papers in journals such as IEEE/ASME TMECH, IEEE TRO, and IEEE RAL, as well as in conferences including IROS and ROBIO. Research Interests: Path Planning, Environmental Obstacle Perception, UAV Motion Planning, End-to-End Autonomous Flight, Crowdsourced Data Mapping, UAV Perception and Dynamic Obstacle Avoidance, Autonomous Flight in Complex Dynamic Environments.

Dr. Duan received his Bachelor's degree in Communication Engineering from Southwest University of Science and Technology from 2009 to 2013, and his Master's degree in Robotic Vision (VIBOT) through the EU EM program from 2013 to 2015. From 2015 to 2017, he worked as a Research Fellow at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. From January 2019 to March 2022, he pursued his Ph.D. in Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Since July 2022, he has been conducting postdoctoral research in the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and in January 2023, he was promoted to Research Assistant Professor. Dr. Duan has long been engaged in research in embedded systems and robotic vision. His recent research interests mainly include VSLAM, embodied AI, UAVs, and aerospace payloads. Dr. Duan is a Member of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, has served as a reviewer and session chair for IROS and ICRA conferences in the field of intelligent robotics for many years, won third place in the UAV Intelligent Racing Competition at the 2019 IROS conference, and in 2022 became a committee member of the Remote Sensing Surveying and Mapping for Deep Space Exploration, Chinese Society for Geodesy Photogrammetry and Cartography.

Feng Yurong graduated from the The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a MSc in Mechanical Engineering in 2020. Before that, he obtained bachelor's degree in 2017 from Xi'an Jiaotong University. Previously, he joined Aircraft Design and Research Institute in Xi'an Aircraft Industrial Corporation and responsible for development of localization and navigation system during 2023-2025. Nowadays, he is pursuing his PhD in Mechanical Engineering department of Xi'an Jiaotong University. His main interests towards dielectric barrier dicharge, flow control, model-based reinforcement learning, multi-modal machine learning, multi-agent localization and mapping.

Dr. Chang Ching-Wei obtained his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Yuan-Ze University, Taiwan, and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Since January 2022, he has been affiliated with the Hong Kong Center for Construction Robotics (HKCRC), where he leads the development of intelligent IoT measuring devices tailored for construction applications. In addition to this role, he is a co-founder and technical lead of a construction robotics company that specializes in heavy construction machinery, including tower cranes and excavators, focusing on remote and autonomous operation. Dr. Chang's research interests are centered on UAV technology, particularly in the areas of autonomous landing systems and air quality monitoring. His work often involves collaboration with various academic institutions and governmental organizations, contributing to advancements in the field. He has authored numerous publications in esteemed journals, showcasing his commitment to advancing knowledge and technology in construction automation and robotics.
